The Lear birds, re-imagined as if they have flown through a vase of flowers as painted by Ambrosious Bosscheart, a celebrated 16th Century Dutch Still Life painter. The original Lear bird prints were some of the first composition collage images Kristjana created, inspired by the drawings of the greatest ornithological artist of his era, Edward Lear.
Edward Lear was an English artist, illustrator, musician, author and poet. He was an incredible spirit and is best known for his popular nonsense collections of poems, songs, short stories, botanical drawings, recipes and alphabets. He was particularly known for his limericks, a form he popularised.
One of Lear's limericks:
There was an Old Man in a boat,
Who said, 'I'm afloat, I'm afloat!’
When they said, 'No! you ain't!’ He was ready to faint,
That unhappy Old Man in a boat.
