Description

One of a trio of contemporary Limited Edition fine art prints, inspired by the irresistible, splashy draw of the British seaside holiday.  For centuries we have swept, as reliably as seagulls and grains of sand, to bask in the quirky charms of British coastal towns and their surrounding countryside.  In these prints, Kristjana casts her artistic eye over the coastlines, forests and rock pools of the counties of Kent in the East and Cornwall in the West.  Each scene captures an eclectic snapshot of the many brief moments that merge together to create the holiday state of mind.  Whether by the sea or in the woods, closer to nature, our frenetic heads switch off and happily drift into a haze of peace...

Water cascades over a delicate porcelain lip, down into a waiting basket where it eddies and flows before trickling into the waiting sea.  The teapot is an escapee from the teapot museum in Kent, known as ‘Teapot Island’, and the water in the basket echoes this connotation of Kent, as the name of the town Margate, or ‘Mere Gate’, translates as ‘pool of water’.  Leaning into the cliffs are the stone ruins of the Botallack Count House, once a vast submarine Cornish mine.  A gust of wind has stolen parasols, now dancing delightedly, high above ships’ sails.
The finest drink for any time of day - tea! - laps at the shoreline, while cakes, jellies and fancies bob about in the water of the bay, overseen by a commanding and bedecked British bulldog.  Summer is in full bloom, and petals reflect the heat with crimson poppies, taffy pink mallow flowers and strawberry coloured orchids, scrambling over the rocks, swaddled by a bed of ferns.
Lesser black-backed gulls donn their summer hats, whilst a pair of cats idly pass the time of day.  Here, Kristjana has conjured up an air of tranquil familiarity; holiday makers savouring the tastes of a home from home.

This artwork forms one of a complementary trio which look stunning when hung together.
